Frank Bainimarama has no time for poor people

So Frank and his cabinet really believe that they can buy honest peoples’ good hearts with their 200 percent tax rebate cherries? And yes, it is only applicable to those who donate money to Frank Bainimarama’s appeal chest plus whichever NGO they deem to be pro-Frank. Chorombous, how cheap and low will these guys stoop?

Q – Why did Frank apply a 200% tax rebate to only a selective group who  are donating $1,000 or more?

A 1- Frank knows that the total sum given by donors who are contributing directly to NGOs will be far greater than his already unpopular appeal. He knows that his appeal is a big flop well  before it started – another public humiliation and confirmation of his unpopularity in Fiji and abroad. So the best he can come up with is to dangle his rotten black cherries to entice opportunists and deceivers like him to feed his broke piggy bank.

A2 – He wants to reward only those who are loyal to his cause (coup apologists cum beneficiaries) and not to others who are giving freely and expect nothing in return (real charity givers)

A3 – The coupster and his regime are dead broke and need all the money they can get their hands on. They are desperate for any free hand-out.

 

Q – Why apply a minimum of $1,000 or more to qualify for the tax rebate? What about the 5c to $995 donors who may be giving all they have?

A1 – Our little understanding about the good book teaches us that, “As the Lord sat near the temple treasury, he watched the people as they dropped in their money. Many rich men dropped in a lot of money; then a poor widow came along and dropped in two little copper coins, worth about a penny.  He called his disciples together and said to them, I tell you that this poor widow put more in the offering box than all the others. For the others put in what they had to spare in their riches; but she, poor as she is , put in all she had – she gave all she had to live on.” Do we need to say more?

A2 – Frank doesn’t recognise and probably doesn’t appreciate the contribution of the poor, only the rich.

A3 – Frank doesn’t want to muck around with loose change, just big bucks that can help exalt his name and his status.
